Real Estate Broker

If you are looking for a career in real estate, you have a number of options to choose from in your chosen field. When most people think about careers in real estate the one position that usually comes to mind is a residential real estate broker. This is an agent who helps to facilitate the sale or purchase of a home. However, being a residential broker is not the only option if you want to work in the real estate field. Some of the other career options include commercial real estate agent, property manager, land developer and appraiser.

A residential real estate broker is a very popular career choice for those who wish to work in the real estate field. These brokers help homeowners to buy and sell their homes. If you choose to work in this field you should have a thorough understanding of local real estate laws, financing options and the local housing market. This will ensure that you are providing your clients with sound advice and helping to save them both time and money.

Another career option in the real estate field is a commercial real estate agent. This agent specializes in the sale and purchase of commercial properties. These properties may include, but are not limited to, apartment buildings or rental properties, restaurants, retail stores or warehouses. This type of agent should not only be aware of applicable real estate laws but should also have the knowledge to predict the potential growth in the area as it applies to the commercial property.

A property manager has the responsibilities of overseeing the daily operations of a commercial property and working to maintain the investor’s investment. The property manager can be responsible for either performing maintenance activities or coordinating maintenance activities. This includes regularly scheduled maintenance such as tending to landscaping as well as unscheduled maintenance such as repairing leaks or other damages.

A land developer is one who turns large lots into profitable investments by developing the property. The land may be developed into commercial, residential or any other type of space. A land developer’s job is to purchase the land and determine the most profitable use for the land. The developer than arranges for financing to complete the project, contracts with a construction company to complete the work and markets the developed property.

Working as an appraiser is another option for those who are interested in a career in real estate. An appraiser evaluates a property to determine the current value of the property. This value may be necessary for a number or reasons including tax purposes, resale of the property or insurance purposes. When performing an appraisal, the appraiser looks at a number of factors including size and condition of the property, age of the property and comparable properties in the same area. All of these factors help the appraiser to determine the value of the property.

Whatever career in real estate you choose, it is likely that you will spend a great deal of time in school. Most careers in real estate require both classroom experience as well as passing a licensing exam. Additionally, many of the careers in real estate also require continuing education classes to renew your license.
