The San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, locally referred to as the “Coronado Bridge“, spans over the San Diego Bay linking San Diego with Coronado, California. Currently there is a campaign to rename the 11,179-foot-long, 200 foot-tall bridge after the nations 40th President Ronald Reagan.

Construction of the Coronado Bridge started in 1967, and opened to traffic on August 3, 1969 (most residents used the ferry before). Originally, the bridge had a toll and eventually became ”toll-free” under the Smisek Mayorship (16 years after the bridge bond was paid). I personally am for a “toll” on the bridge to help local and state budgets as well as keep the “riff raft” traffic out of town. The tourist that won’t come to town because of a toll is the tourist who packed their family bologna sandwiches not someone who is going to spend money in the local economy/businesses.
