More and more people are finding that it is not only more convenient, but more profitable to set up shop and work from home.
Whether you are starting your own business or just find that you have more work to do from your regular job that you must bring home with you, it is important that you set up a clean, organized space that is conducive with the work that needs to get done away from a corporate office.
There are many benefits to working from home (like your stocked refrigerator is only a few steps away and you don’t have to worry about a porky employee stealing your lunch), just to name a few.
But if you do not have the right space set up in your home, you could find that you are not productive and are wasting a lot of valuable time that could be used for productive work. This does not mean that you have to remodel your home to devote an entire room to be a home office.
If you are limited on space, or do not have the means or funds to make an addition or convert one of your rooms into a home office, there are many things you can do to use what space you have to its fullest advantage. There are thousands of products on the market today that are made to organize clutter and the electronics you use to work from home.
An article by Harriet Schechter of The San Diego Union Tribune, “Paper Chase,” discusses some innovative products that will help to organize your home office, or whatever space you choose to do your work in.
“No room for a home office? No problem. These days, you don’t need to have a separate room – or even a screened-off nook – for taking care of household business. (A home-based business, however, may require a larger area and more privacy.) The old concept of a home office as a singular, static space has given way to the idea that wherever various tasks tend to get done, the necessary tools and supplies should be located.”
That is why products that are especially designed for organizing papers and keeping electronics charged and ready to go are becoming so popular with today’s consumer.
Once you have everything organized and charged up, you will find that it is a lot easier to get some work done.
One product that not only charges your laptops, cell phones, music devices and any other gadgets you may have is called the e-Nook, and is an essential part of any home work space.
“The e-Nook ($399 and up) is a combination charging station, work surface and storage unit that mounts on almost any wall and – here’s the best part – hides away when not in use. Press the push-to-open magnetic door latch and a 30-inch-wide, 3/4-inch-thick work space eases down. It’s deep enough to accommodate a laptop computer, mouse and notepad. This clever clutter-cutter also features a hidden panel with a six-outlet power strip for charging all your gear; a fabric-covered back panel that functions as a bulletin board; and optional accessory shelves that can be configured in several ways.”
A good filing cabinet (with specific drawers designated for different items) and a desk with plenty of storage are also essential to keeping any loose papers at bay as well as organizing other office supplies such as pens, highlighters and sticky notes.
